Hurricane-rated sliding doors are heavy by design. When they get hard to move, the culprit is usually rollers and track wear, and the heavier panel makes that wear show up sooner.
An impact sliding door uses laminated glass and a reinforced frame to stand up to wind-borne debris. That makes each panel much heavier than a standard patio door. The extra weight puts more load on every roller, wears the track rail faster, and makes even a small amount of debris feel like a wall. Many impact doors also use multi-point locks that pull the panel tight against the seals, so a door that is slightly out of adjustment can be very hard to latch.
We treat impact doors as their own category. Removing a heavy laminated panel safely takes the right technique, and replacement rollers need to be rated for the weight. Our service includes:
Leaning hard on a heavy door that does not want to move can bend the lock hardware or chip the edge of the glass. If the door has gotten noticeably harder to use, the rollers are telling you something. Getting them replaced early protects the track and the lock.
An impact door only protects your home if it closes and locks fully. We recommend checking that it latches easily before June. If you have to fight it, schedule service early, since our calendar fills up fast once a storm is in the forecast. We handle this repair every week across Orlando, Dr. Phillips, Kissimmee, Winter Park, and the Space Coast, usually with same-day appointments available.
