In most of the country, sliding door rollers last 10-15 years. In Central Florida, salt air along the Space Coast and constant humidity inland can cut that in half, we regularly replace rollers on doors that are only 5-7 years old, especially on homes closer to the coast. If your door was fine last year and is suddenly heavy or noisy, roller wear, not a bad door, is almost always the cause.
A grinding or heavy door usually means rollers, but not always. If the noise or resistance happens at one specific spot every time rather than throughout the whole slide, the track itself may be bent or damaged rather than the rollers.
